The Influence of Summer

My latest watercolor illustrations........

I started out with the Chevron design in mind, but by the time I finished that, I had several other ideas.   So I kept painting..... and painting :)  I think the fact that it's summer time had a huge influence on these.  I can't keep myself away from bright colors!  

Blue Goose Feathers

Another feather painting....

I really had fun with this one.... it was so enjoyable to paint!  It's a delicate painting and I'm starting to realize that delicate is part of my style.  It's been hard for me to recognize my own painting style, but I think I'm starting to see it now :)

Little Blue Bike

It's almost technically summer!  It's the perfect time to go for a bike ride......or to decorate your house with some bicycle art if you don't actually own a bike.  I'm in the boat of owning no such bikes, but hopefully one day.....

This painting makes me wish I had a pretty bike to ride somewhere cool... like the beach.  And then that makes me wish I lived on the beach..... so ya, I'll just keep on dreamin!

My Little Geraniums

I've already written about one of my favorite flowers (geraniums), but it isn't enough for me to just look at them.... I had to paint them too!

I love how this painting looks in this little white frame! I may have to hang it in my art room for a while, at least until it sells.  It's up for sale in my Etsy Shop!

Elephants on the Brain

I've got elephants on the brain... or uh... on the brush, I mean.  These little watercolors are so fun to make and they have sold really well, so I had to make more!    There must be a lot of nursery decorating going on out there and these are perfect for it :)

Feathers in my Yard

Yep, I'm painting feathers now! I've been loving the feather trend for a while, so why not?  They're so fun to paint with watercolors!  

I just happened to find both of these feathers in my yard (on separate days), pretty lucky huh?!  The rooster feather is gorgeous and I have no idea how it found it's way to me, but I'm glad it did :)

Mother's Day Postcards

Since I was vacationing at the beach before Mother's Day, I took the chance to do a little painting.....

These watercolor postcards are what I sent to the Mother's in my life.  I wish I could paint at the beach every week!

You win some, You lose some

Hey guys!  Today I want to share a few paintings..... one that I mostly like and one that I really don't like much at all.  They are far from perfect, but I'll share them anyway. 

 Mostly I just post the paintings I'm really happy with, but in reality, about half of my paintings don't turn out the way I want.  I have quite a collection in my art cupboard of the experiments, the rejects, and just the plain mess-ups.  

So this poppy painting here, I'm pretty happy with.  The purple poppy has a weird looking petal hanging off the bottom, but I love the colors.  This would be worth another go for sure!

This one here is of some kind of roses (I forget which kind) and was a bit of an experiment.  Not my fav,but   I think I learned how not paint with this one.  Hopefully with each painting I can figure out watercolors a little bit better.  They can be so temperamental, but have a lot of possibilities :)

Watercolor Butterflies

My latest, happy little butterflies.....

This time I tried painting them more wet on wet and I'm really happy with how they turned out.  Watercolors are the perfect medium to paint butterflies!  They let you show the translucence of the wings better than other paints.

The  Blue Morpho Butterfly is my favorite... I guess you now know where the image for my new blog header came from!  

New Prints!

I finally ordered more prints of my work and they are finally here!

And in case you've never heard of a giclee print before and you're wondering what the heck that is, here's a little description from oberonart.co.uk:

Giclée prints: Inkjet prints printed from a computer where the image has been stored as a digital file, and is then outputted onto paper or canvas with a high-resolution wide-format printer. The image may have been created on-screen or may have been scanned in to the computer. Giclee prints may be produced on a wide choice of substrate including artist paper and allow the artist/printer great control over the resulting image.
