Crochet Sunglasses Case

I'm one of those people that need new sunglasses pretty much every year.  They inevitably get scratched or smashed somehow.  I never bothered to buy or make a case for them till now.....

I scoured the web for a good crochet sunglasses case pattern and I found a winner HERE at Dly's Hooks and Yarns.  Check it out!

I had to do a little adjusting from her pattern.  My first try was way too big so I adjusted the pattern to only chaining 8 at the beginning instead of 12.  This made it smaller and  really quick to make, but the stitches are still too loose for my liking.  In the future I plan to use a smaller hook to make a tighter weave to protect my glasses even better.

I also switched up the colors to make it more fun and added one of my mini-crochet flowers to the front.

Colorful crochet things just make me smile :)

Sea Penny Bracelet Tutorial

Oh yes.... I've made something else with my little crochet sea pennies... dainty bracelets!

After trying to crochet them together in some manner and utterly failing, I settled on hot gluing them to some felt.  Ha! So simple! I wish I would have thought of that first!  I'll save you the pain...just follow my little tutorial here:

Materials:
crochet sea pennies- make enough to cover all around your wrist.  (I made mine out of a fine shiny yarn, so they look more delicate.)You can find my tutorial for them here.
felt
sew on snaps
hot glue gun

Step 1:  Measure the circumference of your wrist.  Add 1/2 to 3/4 inches to that length, depending on how tight you want your bracelet to be.  Cut a piece of felt in these dimensions:  1/2 wide x Length your wrist circumference + 1/2 to 3/4 inch.  My wrist is about 6 inches around so I cut my felt 1/2 inch wide and 6 3/4 inch long.  The width can vary here depending on how thick you want your bracelet to be and how large your crochet sea pennies are.

Step 2:  Hot glue or sew snaps onto each end, making sure to get them on the right sides so they will close nicely around your wrist.

Step 3:  Arrange the sea pennies in desired order/pattern and hot glue them to the felt strip.  Make sure to overlap the sea pennies a bit, unless you want gaps showing between them while wearing the bracelet.

Strap your bracelet on and wear it proudly cuz, hey, it's not every day you wear crochet bracelet!

Safety Pin Bracelet

Well folks, I'm discovering that being cooped up in the house this winter is not entirely a bad thing.  I have lots of time for creating things that have been on my to-do list for quite some time,  like this safety pin bracelet.

This had been on my list ever since I found the tutorial over at My Favourite Things Blog.  It's a bit time consuming to make, but not too hard.  I'm just happy that I finally used up the seed beads that I've had laying around ever since I was a kid.

Crochet Bear Hats

I made these little bear hats for my soon-to-be-born nephews....and now that the baby shower is over I can post them :)

The pattern comes from Easy Make Me Happy blog and it's a free one!  Yea! It's actually for monkey hats, but I just changed the location of the ears to make them bears instead... I like them better that way :)

I can't wait to see these on my nephews one day!

Green Crochet Shell Hat

Well, it's not too cold here yet, but I'm still getting in the mood to crochet!  I whipped up another one of my Shell Stitch Crochet Hats.

If you want the pattern... you are in luck!  I posted the free pattern earlier this year... so check it out.

p.s.  I love that I have a brick fireplace to take photos in front of now.  It's much more interesting than a plain white wall :)

Crochet Flower and Bead Necklace

Need some new jewelry ideas?  Well, I've got a few.  I didn't make anything new for this project... I just combined my bead necklaces with my crochet flowers and .... there you have it!  Kinda fun huh ?!

I used safety pins to attach the flowers to the necklaces, that way I can change the flowers around whenever I want.

Don't you just love crochet flowers?  I sure do! They have so many uses and I keep discovering more.  They make me happy :)

Crochet Owl Purses

I tried out a new crochet pattern for Owl Purses, found at Mama G's Big Crafty Blog (cool name for a blog huh?).

I love these because they are so easy and quick to make- not to mention adorable!  Plus I was able to use up some left-over scraps of yarn- that's always a good thing :)

I think these will end up being gifts for my nieces.... little girls would love these right?!

Shell Stitch Crochet Hat- Free Pattern

A Happy Valentines Day to all!  I hope you are feeling loved and showing some love today :)

To celebrate, I'm sharing a little something I've been working on for almost a month now-  a crochet hat pattern!

This is my first official pattern, so I had to make three hats times to make sure I had it written correctly.  But now it's finished and I'm sharing it with all you crocheters out there for free!   I would love for some feedback on my pattern, so if you try it out, be sure and let me know how it goes!  Or, write me with any questions.

The pattern is just for the hat- no flower included- sorry.  The pattern for the flower comes from Melody Maria Fulone on Ravelry.com.  I tweaked it just a little bit for my own preferences.  I used a K hook instead of a J and made the second row of the flower on the front instead of the back.  Then I just flipped the flower over-  I like it better that way :)

So here's the pattern for the Shell Hat. (You can click on the link below to download a pdf to print off)

Grey Crochet Earmwarmer

So, I ran across a couple more free patterns for crochet ear-warmers and of course, I HAD to try one out! These patterns are much cuter than the one I came up with a few months ago.  Nothing can beat the shell stitch with crochet- it's my favorite :)

I actually used two separate patterns to create this ear-warmer.  The pattern for the band comes from
 tangledhappy.com.

The pattern for the flower comes from Melody Maria Fulone on Ravelry.com.  Check out her Cozy Flowered Headband.  I haven't tried out the headband part yet, but the flower pattern is awesome!

And since I won't be posting again until next week, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Crochet Infinity Scarf

So, I found a great crochet pattern for a scarf using a variation of a shell stitch in Reader’s Digest  “Crochet in No Time”  at my library, but I wanted to change it a little bit.  I made my own variation by joining the ends to make an infinity scarf!  Yea! Just in time for winter too :)

Crochet Earwarmer

The weather is getting colder and that always gets me in the mood for crocheting! This is my latest creation, another earwarmer, similar to the one I made earlier this year.

My husband thinks I'm a little weird for making more.  But I got this new coat at the end of the winter season this year, right when they were all  90% off, oh ya!  And then I didn't have an earwarmer to match it, so I had to make another.  We women just have to have our matching accessories, don't we?

I came up with the pattern on my own, except for the flowers.  So if anyone is interested, I can attempt to write down my pattern and share it with you!  Let me know if you are interested!

It's Raining Flowers!

I'm up to my ears in flowers..... crochet flowers!

This time I'm using my flowers to pretty-up some cardigans.  I couldn't decide which flowers to put on which sweaters, so, with the help of some pins, I did a little experimenting.

Here are a few of my options:

If you want to try your hand at making some of these yourself,  you can use some patterns I used from Little Birdie Secrets.  I also did a little experimenting and came up with a few patterns of my own.

Stay tuned for tutorials and patterns of my own!

Crochet Scarf

I finished it! Its a winter scarf that I had planned on having done before winter ended-oops.  At least here in Utah we still get snow in March and April.  Now if I can only figure out how to wear it.  I've avoided scarfs in the past because I have no idea how to tie them or how you're supposed to wear them. But they look so cute, so I guess I'll give them a try :)
